My journey in Swaziland.
I’m now In Illinois, closer to being home from Swaziland!
The trip was amazing, my team and I saw God work in so many ways. I will try my best to tell you all about it, although I am still trying to process it all and I am a little jet legged.
We arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa on March 2nd after a 17 hour flight.
The next morning we took the 3 hour drive into Swaziland. It was so exciting to see all the things I was missing so much. I think I had forgotten how beautiful it is there.
Our first day-
We went to the Dabas Carepoint in the rural area outside of Manzini. A carepoint is a place of safety where children can go to get a meal a few times per day, and a place to play and learn. The carepoints are run by Gogo’s and other volunteers that cook and take care of the orphans. There is a group of Swazi men and women that are called the D- team, or the discipleship team. They go around to all the different carepoints everyday and do bible lessons and disiple the children. So we were able to assist them that day. We played with the kids for a while, and then got to sing and sit with them during their Bible lesson.
That night we spent the night getting to know Jumbo and Kriek who lead our trip, they are full time missionaries in Swaziland.
This is Setu- I will talk more about him later, but we met his at Dabas the first day he has the best laugh and is so loveable! More children at the carepoint, most are in their school uniforms.
One day we went to another carepoint where Timbali crafts is. Timbali Crafts is a ministry that was created to provide income for women in rural Swaziland, and help these women recieve their physical and spiritual needs. There are 90 women working and creating products such as clothe bags, table runners and coin purses. These women not only make these crafts but are also volunteer cooks and caretakers of the orphans and vulnerable children in the community. When we spent the day there we were able to visit with the women and play with all of the kids there. We were able to bring lunch for the women and do a Bible study with them. It was amazing to see so many hardworking and strong women. It was also so much fun playing with the kids, we painted nails, played tag and sang songs. I spent much of the afternoon loving on one little boy who ended up napping in my lap 🙂
It was also SUCHHH a blessing to see my old friend Katie. I worked with Katie a few years back before I wen to Africa the first time, and she is now on a 3 month trip in Swaziland- she happened to be at Timbali crafts that same day- it was so great getting to see her and hear all about her ministry!
